English Assignment

1.       1. Father has Rp1, 200,000.00 as his salary and reduces 14% tax. Determine father's salary after imposed by tax. (Book 1, page 129)
2.       2. If the price of one dozen of spoons is Rp18, 000.00, how much it cost for 27 spoons? (Book 1, page 187)
3.       3. The perimeter of a garden is 30 meters. The ration between the length and the width of the garden is 3:2. Determine the length and the width of the garden! (Book 1, page 189)
4.       4. Solve the following equation: 9x+4=3x+22 (Book 1, page 145)
5.       5. A tradesman has bought rice from farmer in Rp4, 500.00 for each kilogram. Then he sold it in Rp4, 700.00 for each kilogram. Determine the tradesman's profit if he can sale 90 kilograms of rice! (Book 1, page 123)

1.       1. Father's salary is Rp1, 200,000.00. Assume that his salary is 100%. If we imposed his salary (14%), he has 100%-14% that equals to 86%. So his salary is 86% of Rp1, 200,000.00. It's equals to Rp1, 032,000.00.
2.       2. We know that one dozen is 12 pieces. To get the price of 27 spoons, we have to know the price of a spoon. The price of a spoon is the price of a dozen spoon divides by a dozen or 12 spoons. It becomes Rp18, 000.00 divides by 12; it's equal to Rp1, 500.00. The price of a spoon is Rp1, 500.00. Then we get the price of 27 spoons from Rp1, 500.00 times to 27, it's equal to Rp40, 500.00.
3.       3. To find the length and the width, we need to find the ratio or the perimeter from the ratio f the length and the width. The formula of perimeter is the sum of its lengths and its widths. The ratio of the perimeter will be 3 plus 2 plus 3 plus 2 that equals to 10. To find the length, we divide the length's ration by the perimeter's ratio. Then multiply the result with the real measurement of the perimeter. So does the width. For the length we have 3 divides by 10. It's equal to 0.3, and then multiplies it with 30.  It becomes 9. For the width we have 2 divides by 10. It's equal to 0.2, and then multiplies it with 30. It becomes 6. So the length is 9 meters and the width is 6 meters.
1.       4. To solve this equation, first we subtract both sides by 3x, becomes 9x+4-3x=3x+22-3x, so we get 6x+4=22. Then we subtract both sides by 4, so we get 6x=18. After that we divide both sides by 6, and we get the solution of x. x is equal to 3.
2.       5. Assume buying price is x and selling price is y. So x is equal to Rp4, 500.00 and y is equal to Rp4, 700.00. Assume the profit is z, so to get the profit we subtract the selling price by the buying price. Then we get Rp4, 700.00 subtract by Rp4, 500.00 that equals to Rp200.00. So Rp200.00 is the profit of the rice for each kilogram. If he can sell 90 kg, his profit will be Rp200.00 times to 90 kilograms. It's equal to Rp18, 000.00.

ICEBERG Structure for Mathematics Learning Process II - Ethnomathemaitcs Reflection

ICEBERG Approach in Realistic Mathematics Mathematics is abstract, I admit that. Until now I still think that mathematics is complicated and always become the ‘unseen’ thing. If I, the university student, still think mathematics is abstract thing, then how about children in elementary school and junior high school? Maybe they will think that mathematics is from the outer-space. Realistic mathematics divides mathematics itself into four kinds: concrete mathematics, concrete model, formal model, and formal mathematics. Concrete mathematics is the lowest mathematics because we use a concrete object to deliver the material. The highest is, of course, the formal mathematics. Formal mathematics is used in university, used by mathematicians. We can say that formal mathematics is the abstract one. To facilitate students to understand the material, teacher can use the ICEBERG method. Here is the construction of ICEBERG. The floating capacity represents the mathematics learning

Understanding The Elements Supporting Ethnomathematics I - Ethnomathematics Reflection

Some people think ethno mathematics is not important or not interesting enough. But I think ethno mathematics has its own enchantment. Ethno mathematics gives me the other side of mathematics where mathematics has an interesting history. Knowing that mathematics is used since a long ago makes me feel that mathematics is not an ordinary knowledge. Mathematics is not only a pure knowledge, but also knowledge that has meaning and history. This time Mr. Marsigit gave us a quiz and he asked us to make a reflection from it. This time I knew that Aji Saka is real, not a legend or a story. In communication, there are four dimensions, namely material dimension, formal dimension, normative dimension, and spiritual dimension. Material dimension is a dimension where the communication is built between two persons or more with physical contact. For example when a guy throws a punch to someone else, the dimension is the physical contact, the punch. Formal dimension is a dimension where the comm
